FROM FINE CARRIAGE TO PUMPKIN RIND

I turn over to the mercy of the reading public my paper “THE PUMPKIN HOUR IN SCIENCE (How and Why Major Achievements Turn into Marginal Findings)” issued by the journal “Cosmos and History” a couple of days ago. It deals with a very interesting phenomenon comprising the metamorphosis of scientific results from the fine carriage of outstanding accomplishments to a pumpkin rind of minor improvements – due to an all-embracing transformation of the conceptual background of a subject field that brings to a revision of its basic tenets. The philosophers of science have long since noticed that radical shifts in the foundations of knowledge not infrequently cast doubt on ideas taken as inviolable truths. However, that such changes can entirely alter the value of not only theories but also experimental findings without touching upon their validity, still remains in the shade and, anyway, has not become the subject of a special analysis.  Meanwhile, this is no less, and to practical effect even more, important a problem, since the recognition of a scientific result and, respectively, its author(s) depends on its relevance rather than being true.

A quick look
